Frequently Asked Questions
What does a birth doula do?
A birth doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period. While I do not perform medical procedures or replace your healthcare provider, I help you feel informed, supported, and confident as you navigate your birth experience.
When should I hire a doula?
The sooner, the better! Hiring a doula early in pregnancy gives you more time to build a relationship, ask questions, create a birth plan, and prepare for labor. However, many families hire me during the third trimester and still benefit greatly from doula support.
Do you support hospital births?
Yes! Most of my clients plan hospital births. I provide support before labor begins, throughout labor and birth, and during the first hours after your baby is born. My role is to help you feel informed, comfortable, and supported within the hospital setting.
Do you support home births and birth center births?
Of course. I support families planning hospital births, birth center births, and home births throughout Broward County and Miami-Dade.
Will you help my partner participate in the birth?
Definitely! My role is not to replace your partner but to support both of you. I help partners feel confident, involved, and equipped with practical ways to support you during labor and birth.
Can I have a doula if I am being induced?
Absolutely. Inductions can sometimes be longer and more intense than spontaneous labor. A doula can provide comfort measures, emotional support, position suggestions, and encouragement throughout the process.
Yes! Doulas support all types of births, including births with epidurals. Even with pain medication, you may benefit from emotional support, position changes, comfort measures, communication support, and guidance for you and your partner.
Can I have a doula if I plan to get an epidural?
We will discuss this during our prenatal visits. Generally, I encourage clients to reach out when labor begins, if their water breaks, if they have concerns, or anytime they feel they need support.
When do you go on call?
Do you support VBACs?
Yes. I support families planning a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean). Every VBAC journey is unique, and my goal is to help you feel informed, supported, and empowered as you prepare for your birth.
When do you go on call?
Yes. Every doula package includes postpartum follow-up to check in, answer questions, discuss your birth experience, and help connect you with additional resources if needed.
Do you offer postpartum support?
I begin on-call availability at 38 weeks of pregnancy. During this time, I keep my schedule flexible and remain available 24/7 for labor support.
The first step is scheduling a free consultation. We'll talk about your pregnancy, your birth goals, and what kind of support you're looking for. This is a great opportunity to see if we're the right fit for each other.
Do you attend cesarean births?
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Planned and unplanned cesarean births deserve support too. If hospital policies allow, I can provide support before surgery and during the immediate postpartum period.
Yes. I provide bilingual support in both English and Spanish, allowing families to communicate in the language that feels most comfortable to them.
How do I get started?
I serve families throughout Broward County and Miami-Dade, including Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Weston, Davie, Plantation, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Miami Lakes, Hialeah, Aventura, and surrounding areas.
